The BT Total Broadband free hub offer unfortunately came to a close on 18th September. But never fear, a brand new free offer has taken its place!
As of Friday 19th September, customers will still be able to utilise the free Hub offer, only now it will be the new Hub 2.0. UK Broadband Speeds Falter in World Survey
The British government is expected to turn down the opportunity to finance the upgrading of the countries broadband networks. The much needed makeover could cost up to £30 billion, though reports expect the UK’s top broadband providers to bear the burden of the huge price tag.
The UK’s current broadband service falls well behind other countries in a study conducted by the Oxford University for Cisco. Of the 42 countries tested, Japan is the current leader, followed by Sweden and the Netherlands. The UK was placed right in the middle of the quality rankings. The leading countries are recognised for using broadband as a source of competitive advantage in world markets through government investment and support.
Oxford University Spokesperson, Alastair Nicholson, said -
‘Average download speeds are adequate for web browsing, email and basic video downloading and streaming, but we are seeing more interactive applications, more user-generated content being uploaded and shared, and an increasing amount of high-quality video services becoming available. Moreover, because the study also found significant correlation between a nations’s broadband quality and its advancement as a knowledge economy, policy makers may need to consider how to create an environment to improve key broadband performance parameters in the future.’

Eclipse Internet Shortlisted For Best ISP Award
After winning the 2007 ISPA for ‘Best Consumer Broadband’, Eclipse Internet has now been placed on the short list for this years ‘Best ISP’ in the PC Pro awards. The yearly awards, which be held at Syon House in Middlesex on 17th September, are to showcase the best providers of IT equipment as well as the prestigious ‘Best ISP’ award.
Following one of the biggest IT surveys in the UK, the shortlist for each award is put together with customers asked to vote for their favourite provider. Earlier in the year, Eclipse Internet was awarded Best Business ISP and Best Business Email at the 2008 ISPA awards. The company, which employs 130 people at its base in Exeter, recently launched the UK’s first ever customised internet service, allowing users to adjust their connection settings to suit their requirements.
