BT business broadband are about to let millions of businesses enjoy a free broadband boost with the news that they are about to more than double their headline speeds for business customers. Users in enabled areas can now enjoy speeds of up to 20Mbs instead of 8Mbs at no extra cost.

The faster speeds will be available for up to 40% of UK businesses, with plans to extend the coverage to 55% by March 2010. This new service will enable several users on the same connection to upload or download data in a fraction of the time, which is good news for businesses looking to boost their websites. BT Business will now be offering the BT Broadband Accelerator that eliminates electrical interference from telephone-extension wiring, which improves speed and reliability.

Managing Director of BT Business, Bill Murphy, said -

Unlike other providers, BT is upgrading businesses to 20Mb/s for free. High-speed broadband provides a faster and more reliable service that will transform the way UK firms work and compete, at the time they need it most. In line with the Government?s Digital Britain review, we will be making higher speeds more widely available.

The BT Business Total Broadband tariff will remain the same price for the 20Mbs service as the 8Mbs. BT Business is also currently trialling a 40Mb/s super-fast fibre-based broadband in various locations across the UK this summer, with plans to one day deliver speeds of up to 100Mbs using ‘fibre to the premise’ (FTTP) technology.
