tescoTesco is looking to join the competition in the UK for a foothold in the lucrative broadband bundle market. By taking on the likes of TalkTalk, Tiscali and Virgin Media broadband bundles, Tesco is signalling a new era in competitive broadband marketing which could see other supermarkets follow suit.

Thanks to a 5 year deal deal brokered by Tesco with Cable & Wireless, they will now be able to offer broadband deals AND home phone services to customers for the first time ever. Tesco’s previous deal was with Virgin Media, which means we will see the two companies in direct competition for broadband customers for the first time.

Chief Executive Officer of Tesco Telecoms and Tesco Mobile,Lance Batchelor said -

We’re delighted to be partnering with Cable&Wireless for our broadband and home phone services. We share a commitment to providing excellent customer service and the new network capabilities will allow Tesco Broadband to offer enhanced services for our customers across the UK.

Tesco’s whole ‘value’ ethos is sure to ruffle the feathers of a few broadband bundle providers, so the possibility of a price war could be likely. This is only going to help the consumer in the long term, as when a company the size of Tesco steps it’s game up, there is always on sure fire winner…

the customer.
