BT Total Broadband Extra Speed for Free

August 18, 2009 · Filed Under Broadband, BT Total Broadband · Comment

BT Total Broadband is offering customers across the UK the chance to boost their connection speeds to up to 20Mbs, for free, with their brand new booster pack called BT Broadband Accelerator. The pack, worth £15, will be free to BT Total Broadband customers who order it online, with only the £1.20 postage to be paid. The ‘I-Plate’ is inserted into the main telephone socket and helps stabilise the broadband line by isolating a redundant wire, thus reducing the amount of electrical interference that can cut broadband speed by 1.5Mb.

The easy to install plate comes with a simple instruction manual, as well as a great 10 step guide on how to optimise broadband speeds. Faster speeds will initially be available to 40% of the UK’s homes, with coverage increasing to 55% by March next year. BT broadband customers with the plate installed in enabled areas will now see speeds of up to 20Mb/s, with upload speeds increasing by almost double.

Plus, by adding the Broadband Accelerator to their current 3 months free broadband offer which ends on 4th September 2009, it’s easy to see why more and more people are choosing BT Total broadband.

BT Business Launches New 20Mbs Broadband

June 5, 2009 · Filed Under Broadband, BT Total Broadband · Comment

BT business broadband are about to let millions of businesses enjoy a free broadband boost with the news that they are about to more than double their headline speeds for business customers. Users in enabled areas can now enjoy speeds of up to 20Mbs instead of 8Mbs at no extra cost.

The faster speeds will be available for up to 40% of UK businesses, with plans to extend the coverage to 55% by March 2010. This new service will enable several users on the same connection to upload or download data in a fraction of the time, which is good news for businesses looking to boost their websites. BT Business will now be offering the BT Broadband Accelerator that eliminates electrical interference from telephone-extension wiring, which improves speed and reliability.

Managing Director of BT Business, Bill Murphy, said -

Unlike other providers, BT is upgrading businesses to 20Mb/s for free. High-speed broadband provides a faster and more reliable service that will transform the way UK firms work and compete, at the time they need it most. In line with the Government?s Digital Britain review, we will be making higher speeds more widely available.

The BT Business Total Broadband tariff will remain the same price for the 20Mbs service as the 8Mbs. BT Business is also currently trialling a 40Mb/s super-fast fibre-based broadband in various locations across the UK this summer, with plans to one day deliver speeds of up to 100Mbs using ‘fibre to the premise’ (FTTP) technology.

Fibre Optic BT Total Broadband Coming Soon

January 12, 2009 · Filed Under Broadband, BT Total Broadband, Virgin Media · Comment

BT Total Broadband has announced their chosen sites in London and South Wales to trial its new fibre-optic broadband. London’s Muswell Hill and Whitchurch in Wales will be the focus of attention next summer and will provide customers with headline speeds of up to 40 Mbps.

BT Broadband has already announced plans to roll out fibre-based, super-fast broadband to as many as 10 million homes by 2012, with its £1.5 billion programme promising to deliver top speeds of up to 100 Mbps.

There is even talk of potential speeds of more than 1,000 Mbps in the future!

At the moment most broadband is delivered via copper wires giving customers headline speeds of around 8Mbs, but upgrading these wires to fibre-optic cables would increase speeds hugely This would mean faster downloads and give customers the ability to talk via video links whilst internet downloading and watching movies on high-definition TV.

Ofcom has taken the lead in encouraging this new technology with proposals to make it easier and more attractive for firms to invest in rolling-out fibre-optic technology. Virgin Media has launched its super-fast broadband service with speeds of 50 Mbs, allowing users to download an entire music album in 11 seconds, a TV show in a minute and a film in under 4 minutes.
