Virgin Media TV Launch Harry Potter App

July 12, 2011 · Filed Under TV, Virgin Media · Comment

Virgin Media TV are pleased to announce that they will be releasing a special application via their TiVo service to celebrate the release of the final Harry Potter film – The Deathly Hallows Part 2. Due out on Friday 15th July 2011, the latest adventure marks the end of the magical series, in fact, to honour it myself, I may go to the midnight showing (if I can stay awake that late!)

The new app has been developed by Virgin Media with avid Potter mad fans in mind, giving them a spellbinding range of content to remind them of this great series of films. I haven’t missed a movie myself, so I’m looking forward to the last installment with baited breath, as I thought The Deathly Hallows Part One was excellent.

You will also be able to catch the first six of the Harry Potter films on Virgin Media, whilst TiVo customers can take a shortcut to a dedicated collector’s folder to mark the special occasion.

Executive director of digital entertainment at Virgin Media, Cindy Rose, said -

There is no better way to celebrate the hugely successful Harry Potter series than by giving fans cherished footage of the stars that have made Hogwarts a household name. The Virgin Media TiVo service presents a whole new digital entertainment experience for consumers who want more from their TV, and this app is a magnificent example of the unique services we’re capable of delivering.

Can’t wait to get down the flicks this week to watch the final film, I do feel a bit for the guy that plays Ron Weasley though, pretty surely he’s going to be the most typecast man since Ken Barlow!

Virgin Media Launch Partnership with Spotify

July 8, 2011 · Filed Under TV, Virgin Media · Comment

Virgin Media TV has launched an exclusive agreement with Spotify which will allow them to be the only UK provider to offer their music platform across multiple services. This is great news for me, as I’m sitting here writing this listening to Spotify whilst using Virgin Media broadband. It’s all about ME folks! But if you, like myself, enjoy both services, then this partnership will be music to your ears (if you’ll pardon the pun!)

This new agreement means that Virgin Media customers can now utilise Spotify’s massive back catalogue of over 13 million tracks online, through their mobile phone, or via their television. So if you have your TV system rigged up to a super sweet Jamo surround sound like I do (all about me again), you could be welcoming your neighbours to a whole world of pain!

Executive director of broadband at Virgin Media, Jon James, said -

We are delighted to have united the Virgin Media brand with the world’s best music service. Spotify will help our customers to fill their world with music, whether it’s at home or on the go, and provide a unique way to get even more out of Virgin Media’s leading digital services.

Virgin Media cable customers will be able to exclusively gain access to Spotify music online whenever they want, as they will be the only digital TV provider to integrate Spotify via their Tivo powered ‘connected’ service. Planning to launch in the next few months, this will be available to both new and existing Spotify and Virgin Media customers.

Director of business development at Spotify, Andreas Liffgarden, said -

By teaming up with Virgin Media we’re giving millions more people across the UK the chance to enjoy all the world’s music at their fingertips, however they choose to listen to it – be that on their computer, mobile, and for the first time through their TV.

Virgin Media TV already offers an amazing library of thousands of music videos via their On Demand service, so by adding the latest Spotify technology to their armoury, it appears they will be offering the most complete music experience around for their customers. I can’t wait!

Virgin Media Offering £100 off all Triple Packages – Offer ends 29-06-11

June 6, 2011 · Filed Under Broadband, TV, Virgin Media, Virgin Media · Comment

This is gutting news for me seeing as I had my Virgin Media bundle installed a couple of weeks ago! You can now receive a whopping £100 off your first bill plus free installation and a free V+ Box. This is extra gutting for me as I only had my installation on 26th May 2011, if I’d have held out for just over a week longer I could have got my hands on this deal. I’m like a wounded animal writing this article!

Let’s just compare what you will receive now to what I received at the end of May 2011 -

  • £100 off first bill (I received £50 off!)
  • Free V HD installation (I paid £40!)

So if you order online before the end of Wednesday 29th June 2011, you can actually be £90 better off than I was a couple of weeks ago, and I thought I got a bargain! You can read about my Virgin Media installation by clicking on the link below, it truly is a top service. In fact, when I just rang them up to ask them if they could do me the same deal (they couldn’t!), I just upgraded my medium TV tariff to a large, I want my MTV!

As you can see, now is definitely the best time to order your Virgin Media bundle, as this is one of the best online savings I have seen, and trust, me I’ve seen and written about a few in my time! So why not stay one step ahead of the game i.e. ME, and give Virgin Media a go, I did and haven’t look back since. Well, apart from obviously being gutted about missing out on this amazing offer. Ouch!

Straight from the Horses Mouth – My Virgin TV Experience

May 31, 2011 · Filed Under Broadband, TV, Virgin Media, Virgin Media · 1 Comment

I’ve just recently had Virgin Media TV installed into my new flat, and thought I’d give you a run down of the experience. As a regular blogger, it’s sometimes good to give first hand feedback, and this experience is well worth reporting. I ordered my Virgin Media bundle on the Tuesday, and was quite surprised when I was informed that the whole package would not only cost me just £20 a month, but also that it could be fitted on the Thursday! For this I received -

  • 10MB broadband
  • Unlimited downloads
  • 65 TV Channels
  • Free Wireless Router
  • Free Weekend calls to UK landlines
  • Plus £50 off!

I decided to go with the V+ HD package, which costs only an extra £5 a month but also allows me to record up to 80 of TV and pause and record my favourite shows. The guys popped round and were in and out within an hour, and that included a full guide into how to use the TV box. If you’ve used Sky TV Plus before then you’ll have no worries, and the amount of extra features is astounding!

Virgin Film on Demand allows you to hire rentals at the same price as Blockbuster, and also at the same time of release. So on Sunday night, I settled down to watch ‘Neds’, the latest release at the rental store without having to leave the comfort of my own front room, brilliant! There’s so much more on demand stuff than Sky. There’s whole series of comedies, including my favourites Peep Show and The Inbetweeners. Plus, on Sunday I forgot that Louis Theroux’s ‘Miami Mega Jail’ was on. Not a problem. I simply flicked back through their archives (Virgin Media record most of the major TV channels) and found the show the following day. So even if you forget to record, you can still find the programmes you want to see at the press of the button.

The installation was completed with the minimum of fuss, and I was up and running with my broadband, TV and phone in only an hour! Seriously, Virgin are really switched on with their customer care. I even received a phone call the next day to ensure I was happy and that everything was working correctly. I couldn’t recommend this service more, particularly the TV, so I’ll just leave you with the link below to the offer I received and if you like what you’ve read, get involved, you won’t regret it.
