Next-generation networks 'will reduce telecoms cost' / Thursday, September 04, 2008
Next-generation networks have been forecast to reduce the cost of telecommunications while also enhancing its capabilities.
Managed services firm Azzurri claimed that newer networks can deliver a mixture of increased capacity, higher quality of service and cost benefits.
The firm added that consumers should not be concerned regarding issues of security and quality when it comes to next generation networks.
Ben Burns, lead consultant of managed services at the firm, said: "Converged networks - the ability to overlay your data network - is a technology that has now matured and has crept onto the market over the past five or six years."
He added that next-generation services allow firms to drive significant extra capacity over to different sites at a low cost point.
In December 2007, the Parliamentary Office of Science and Technology said next-generation networks will be able to carry voice, video and email services on a single platform.
